This May San Francisco Museum of Modern Art opened a new rooftop sculpture garden serving both as a dynamic open art space and a charming corner for a peaceful repose.
Designed by Jensen Architects, an award-winning architecture and interiors firm, the rooftop garden adds 14,400 square feet to the museum while. The unique view from the bridge connecting the garden to the 5th floor is most remarkable and breathtaking.
The rooftop garden expands SFMOMA's magnificent collection of modern and contemporary art with Alexander Calder's Big Crinkly, Ellswort Kelly's Stele I and Barnett Newman's Zim Zum I to name a few. The exhibition also features artwork donated specifically for display in the rooftop garden, including The Lens of Rotterdam by Mario Merz and Joel Shapiro's Untitled.
Another reason to pay a visit to SFMOMA's rooftop garden is the Blue Bottle coffee bar. Finest artisan micro-roasted coffee is the perfect addition to the open-air gallery experience and those who have tasted Blue Bottle coffee will agree, missing this opportunity is inacceptable.
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art not only successfully followed the emerging trend of revitilizing busy downtown roofs with blooming gardens, but added a whole new dimension with this fantastic one-of-a-kind art space.
